A few days back we all heard the news about unreal engine 5 announcement as a 3d designer this is big news for me and for the gamers too. Unreal Engine 5 is all about achieving photorealism in a gaming engine that is never happened in the history before so today I here to talk about some of the key features of the unreal engine 5 and how they gonna change our perspective of future gaming and movie industry in every single way.



First of all, what they introduced is “Lumen in the Land of Nanite,” that they show us running live on ps5(I talked about ps5 in another blog). Lumen is real-time global illumination engine that creates real-time GI and that is insane cos Every time I need realistic renders to form my 3d software(like Maya, Cinema 4d) it's very difficult to do so because of ray tracing in the software is so slow as but current CPU doing a better job at ray tracing some of the render engines uses GPU for computing the ray tracing as Nvidia Shows new RT cores in there GPU especially for ray tracing. We can transfer some load on GPU for ray tracing work(but this talk for another blog).

As per Lumen in Unreal Engine 5 it shows us how it can compute GI in realtime so for my rending work I don't need to wait for calculating the GI it is gonna happen in real-time and so I can more focus into other things rather than rendering back n forth for the perfect result. Lumen is a big thing because it is fully dynamic global illumination solution that reacts to scene geometry when the environment lighting changes it not only bound to sunlight, it work with different kind of light source(we currently don't know how many types of lights it will support). It saves artist precious time when doing lighting in the scene so he doesn't have to wait for the light to bake on the UV's, Everything he does in the editor is run on the game console too. Its huge breakthrough from Epic Games

The other thing they show us the power of "Nanite" how it virtualized Micoropolygon geometry into the engine and stream millions of the polygon straight from the disk. And like this on the table, we can now use the film-quality 3d Model that we make in Zbrush straight into the Unreal Engine 5 (that includes CAD data, Photo scans, Highpoly Zbrush meshes) as per unreal developer we don't need to optimize our model just plug it in the unreal and unreal will handle it own there own. So no need to make LODs; Normal maps, bump maps. Just sculpt the Piece of art and put it in the unreal for further development. 

Final Verdict: So far so good, I believe in the Unreal Engine from the very past and its capability in creating Beautiful Games they always show us how the gaming should look like in future whenever they lunch something like Unreal Tournament, Paragon, Fortnite these are the big titles that come from unreal engine So I am totally sold when they showcase unreal engine 5.
